Function Health Lab Interpretation

A licensed naturopathic doctor reviews your Function Health biomarker results with the clinical expertise to tell you what they actually mean — and what to do about them.

What is Function Health?

Function Health is a direct-to-consumer lab testing platform that gives individuals access to over 100 biomarkers — the same comprehensive panels typically available only through a physician’s order, covering hormones, metabolic markers, nutrient levels, inflammation, cardiovascular risk, and more.

“Your labs look normal.” If you have heard this but still don’t feel well, you’re not imagining it. Standard reference ranges are population averages, not optimal targets. Functional medicine interpretation looks for patterns that conventional medicine often misses.

Why Functional Labs?

Insurance dictates much of healthcare these days. This profit-driven model has created a healthcare system where fewer and fewer labs are being run. Many tests that were once standard are no longer covered unless there is already a medical reason for it (i.e., it’s too late). Bypassing insurance and the current paradigm where one must go through a doctor to get labs ordered provides access to a wealth of information about your health. This comprehensive testing can shed light on issues before they show up as major problems and help you understand your health more. This is the difference between being proactive vs. reactive. Examples of what is included in a typical Function Health panel (and what most naturopathic doctors and functional providers order for their patients):

Thyroid Function

TSH, Free T3, Free T4, and thyroid antibodies — the full picture of thyroid health, not just TSH alone.

Sex Hormones and Adrenal Markers

Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol — critical for energy, mood, and metabolic health.

Metabolic and Insulin Resistance Panel

Fasting glucose, insulin, HbA1c, and lipid markers to assess metabolic health and diabetes risk years early.

Nutrient Status

Iron, B12, Vitamin D, magnesium, and zinc — nutrient deficiencies that drive fatigue, brain fog, and immune dysfunction.

Inflammatory and Cardiovascular Risk Markers

ApoB, Lp(a), hs-CRP, and homocysteine — advanced markers that predict risk far beyond a standard lipid panel. hs-CRP is an inflammation marker; glutathione is a major antioxidant/anti-inflammatory

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel and CBC

Liver enzymes, kidney function, electrolytes, and red and white blood cell analysis — the metabolic foundation.
